A run of the effects-driven epics that taught modern audiences what a movie could feel like — from the desert planets of Star Wars to the rain of Blade Runner and the sands of Arrakis.
Almost all are crowd favorites and easy front doors to the genre; the only one that asks for patience is Blade Runner, which trades spectacle for mood and pays it back — watch these when you want myth on the biggest possible scale.

- Planet of the Apes (1968) — The 1968 ur-text every Apes film since rhymes with — the forgotten origin behind Dawn's whole lineage, still delivering that upside-down-world myth and one of the biggest gut-punch endings the genre ever built.
- Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982) — The overlooked space-opera epic that plays like these Star Wars entries with gray in its hair — aging heroes, a genetically-forged nemesis, and a myth-scale revenge story that's easy to love if the saga did it for you.

- Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (2024) — The thread already runs on Caesar's Apes films — Dawn and War — so this next-generation chapter, set among the overgrown ruins he left behind, is the recent one to pull down if those landed.
