Black Gloves, Bright Blood: Giallo and Its Heirs
A run from the Italian giallo's masked killers and witnesses who half-saw the crime, through De Palma's American versions, to the recent films that still borrow its gloves, colour and voyeurism. Watch them close together and you can see where each trick came from.
Suspiria and the new homages are the crowd-pleasers, and the Bava, Argento and Fulci films are well-loved cult canon. Expect lurid style, stylized violence and dream logic more than airtight plots, and enjoy it for the craft.
