The Grindhouse and Its Heirs

A run from the 70s–80s drive-in and 42nd Street originals (Texas Chain Saw, Maniac, Basket Case, Chopping Mall, Near Dark) to the filmmakers who grew up on them and rebuilt their grime, roadside dread and gleeful excess (Rodriguez, Zombie, Ti West, Cosmatos, Mollner, Leone). Watched near each other, the lineage plays out film by film.

These are cult objects and genre-fan favourites rather than critics' canon, apart from Hooper's landmark. They're easy to watch but punishing on the nerves, so save them for a late night with a crowd that likes its horror nasty.
