Something Is Out There: Sieges from Above

A run of films about ordinary people (a family on a farm, neighbours stuck in a supermarket, a frozen government) besieged by something unknowable from the sky or the fog, where how they hold together matters as much as the monster.

Mostly well-loved mainstream hits with one sharp Japanese satire for those who want more; easy to start, though The Mist's ending hits hard.
