Villeneuve's Kingdom of Dread

A run through Denis Villeneuve's dread years — vanished people, buried family secrets, moral rot, and uncanny doubles — best watched in order to feel one director tighten his grip on unease from Quebec art house to Hollywood thriller.

Two of these (Prisoners, Sicario) are the crowd-favorite thrillers everyone's seen while Incendies is festival-canonical and gutting and Polytechnique and Enemy are the demanding deep cuts — a gripping, uniformly tense binge that asks a strong stomach more than patience.
