Zhao Xiaoding's camera dives through bamboo canopies and tracks thrown daggers, moving with the action instead of observing it.
Payoff: The moving camera puts you inside the ambush's danger and speed rather than watching from a distance.
Once you have seen it
Watch the Echo Game again, knowing Mei can see. (performance)
Once you know Mei can see, the Echo Game plays twice: once as wonder, once as calculated espionage.
Payoff: Knowing the performance is fake doesn't ruin it; it doubles the pleasure of watching her lie perfectly. In the reading: le faussaire (the forger). Mei's blindness performance is the forger's move: she shifts identity in series, making truth rather than finding it.
