*Jerry Maguire* is built on a classic genre engine — the sports picture, the workplace comedy — that Crowe deliberately short-circuits with a **crisis of the action-image**. The midnight mission statement, written in a single feverish burst, is the film's foundational rupture: the moment its hero can no longer function as the deal-making machine the industry expects, the sensory-motor chain between stimulus and professional reflex snapping clean. Fired for his sincerity, stripped to one client, Jerry spends the film trying to find his way back to the capacity for action — but through feeling rather than speed.
