How A Complete Unknown has been received, argued over, and remembered.
A Christmas Day crowd-pleaser that rode Chalamet-mania to eight Oscar nominations — and then went home with zero, a snub-night footnote that's already become part of its story. A year and a half on it sits as the rare music biopic that both casual audiences and Dylan obsessives will actually defend.
The eternal Walk Hard problem: is this just the polished cradle-of-the-legend biopic that parody supposedly killed (made by the director of Walk the Line, no less), or does Chalamet's performance transcend the formula?
The press tour became the text: Timothée crashing his own lookalike contest in NYC, showing up to College GameDay, and his viral SAG speech — 'I'm in pursuit of greatness' — all fed the meme machine. Even Dylan weighed in, posting that 'Timmy' would be 'completely believable as me. Or a younger me. Or some other me.'
Too young for canon but firmly a Letterboxd fixture — the four-star 'I don't even like biopics, but...' review is practically its own genre.
