How The Cycle of Love was received

2026 · Orlando von Einsiedel · The Cycle of Love on Sightlines

Its footprint

The film brings to the screen a story that was already an internet-beloved true tale: P.K. Mahanandia's 1977 journey cycling thousands of miles from India toward Sweden for love, which had circulated for years through press coverage and a bestselling book before the documentary arrived.

Where it stands

Too new for cinephile memory — it's currently a festival crowd-pleaser, having picked up the Audience Award for Best Documentary at the Middleburg Film Festival.

Did you know? The film mixes documentary and recreation: trained actors play the young P.K. and Lotta on the recreated bicycle journey, while the real P.K. and Lotta appear in present-day interviews — and occasionally on the periphery of the recreations themselves.
