Barely seen on release outside Denmark — the quiet, low-budget capper to a trilogy Refn made out of necessity — but once Drive (2011) turned him into a name, cinephiles worked backwards and a striking number now call this the best of the three.

What's debated

The eternal Pusher ranking fight: is III the trilogy's grim masterpiece or does Mikkelsen's Pusher II take it — with a side debate over whether its most notorious sequence is essential or just endurance cinema.

Its footprint

It got a delightful second life when Triangle of Sadness (2022) blew up and viewers realised the lovable oligarch was Zlatko Burić — the same actor who'd played Milo across all three Pusher films since 1996.
