What's debated
Fans endlessly argue over the famously ambiguous ending — and over whether the film is a timeless portrait of youth or a nostalgia trip you had to be (or want to be) a mod to love.
Its footprint
The 'We are the mods!' chant, Sting's bellboy, and the scooters-on-Brighton-seafront imagery are permanent fixtures of British pop culture — the Brighton alleyway is still a pilgrimage site, and the film's look basically wrote the mod-revival dress code.
