The arc
A sensation from the moment it premiered at Sitges in 2007, it was so hot that Hollywood's remake (Quarantine) hit US theaters before the original did — and today it's settled comfortably into 'best found-footage film ever made' conversations rather than needing any reappraisal.
What’s debated
Fans endlessly relitigate the late swerve the story takes in its final stretch — masterstroke that elevates the whole film, or a lore pivot the sequels never should have run with — plus the eternal '[REC] vs. Quarantine' skirmish (rarely close).
Its footprint
The night-vision finale is one of modern horror's most borrowed and parodied images — that grainy green climax basically became the poster, the trailer, and shorthand for found-footage terror itself, and it launched a four-film Spanish franchise plus the American remake.
