A record-smashing blockbuster on release — it became the highest-grossing Indian film ever at the time — even as Hindu groups protested its satire of godmen and #BoycottPK trended. A decade on, it's often invoked wistfully as the kind of big-star religious satire mainstream Bollywood 'wouldn't dare make today.'

What's debated

The perennial fight: is PK genuinely daring satire or a safe, preachy sermon — with a side-debate over how much it owes to the earlier godman-skewering comedy OMG: Oh My God! (2012).

Its footprint

'Wrong number!' became an instant catchphrase across India, and the poster of a nude Aamir Khan holding only a transistor radio is one of Bollywood's most parodied images; the film also became a phenomenon in China, helping open the door for Dangal's success there.
