The arc
Sold in 2013 as the scandal event of the decade, it turned out to be talky, funny and digression-obsessed — and critics liked Vol. I noticeably more than Vol. II. Today the shock-marketing memory has faded and it's settled in as the playful, fly-fishing-and-Bach half of von Trier's Depression Trilogy capstone.

Its footprint
The 'O-face' character posters — the entire cast mid-orgasm — went instantly viral, and the Berlin premiere gave pop culture Shia LaBeouf quoting Eric Cantona's seagulls line at the press conference then walking the red carpet with an 'I AM NOT FAMOUS ANYMORE' paper bag on his head. Uma Thurman's scene-stealing 'Mrs. H' turn is the bit fans endlessly quote.
Where it stands
A von Trier-completist essential and reliable Letterboxd conversation-starter — the more approachable, joke-forward half of a two-part provocation rather than a standalone classic.
