- Alien (1979) — Edwards said H.R. Giger's xenomorph designs 'went into' the mutant Distortus rex — 'like if the T-Rex was designed by H.R. Giger.'
- Return of the Jedi (1983) — Edwards confirmed the Rancor was a major inspiration for the D-Rex's silhouette.
- The Elephant Man (1980) — Edwards told his animators to rewatch it so the mutant would read as suffering and pitiable, not just monstrous.
