Wire in the Blood poster

Wire in the Blood is a dark, cerebral British crime drama following eccentric criminal psychologist Dr. Tony Hill as he profiles serial killers for a northern English police force. Adapted from Val McDermid's novels, it prizes psychological depth and slow-burn suspense over action, delivering genuinely disturbing crime scenarios rendered with unflinching graphic realism. Robson Green's performance as the quirky, socially awkward yet brilliant Hill is the show's gravitational center, with his shifting partnership with female detective colleagues providing structural texture across its six seasons. Aimed squarely at fans of intelligent UK crime drama in the Cracker and Morse tradition, it rewards patient, attentive viewers who want to inhabit a killer's psychology alongside the investigator rather than watch a chase.

From the reviewers

There is a bookish, academic quality to Doctor Hill, without him being tweedy and standoffish (he's more human, and less lofty than Morse).
The stories and the crimes often unfold slowly, with just enough bits of clues and hints to make the slow development seem satisfying.
WARNING: The crime scenes can get a bit grisly, but are never gratuitous.
It's quite dark, with just enough wit to keep you from falling over the edge into the great abyss. The intelligent and complex story line demands focus to follow clearly, and make you think.
Robson Green is incredibly impressive (and maybe a little bit scary) as eccentric psychological profiler Dr. Tony Hill
