Felix Kramer and Susanne Wolff deliver powerhouse performances as Simon and Meret Schäfer, a married ex-spy couple running a low-key safe house in Berlin called "The Nest." Their chemistry feels so real-strained by years of secrets, lies, and the toll of their old lives-yet there's this deep, unbreakable bond that makes you root for them even when everything's falling apart.
The action sequences are sharp and realistic (no cartoonish explosions here), but what really elevates it is how the thriller elements are woven into the personal stakes: saving their marriage, protecting their kid, confronting truths they've buried for 16 years.
The plot of UNFAMILIAR is very exciting and full of twists and turns, but the interwoven family history makes it feel slightly overloaded in places.
Fight scenes: For German standards, shockingly good. They're sparse but punchy-gritty, grounded, no wire-fu nonsense. Above average, easily.
Dialogue: Ah, the eternal German Achilles' heel. Yes, there are still pockets of that classic wordy exposition and slightly theatrical delivery that can sap momentum in a thriller. But credit where due-this one keeps it mostly in check.
