Trapped poster

Trapped (Ófærð) is an Icelandic Nordic noir crime drama in which a small coastal town is cut off by a ferocious winter storm at the same moment a dismembered body surfaces in the harbor. The show's identity is inseparable from its location: the ice, the claustrophobia, the grim insularity of a community that cannot escape either the weather or each other. Local police chief Andri — played with quiet, charismatic authority by Ólafur Darri Ólafsson — carries the investigation largely alone as Reykjavík reinforcements are stranded. Reviewers consistently praise the show's grounded realism, its refusal of genre contrivance, and its deeply human characters. It rewards patient, subtitle-tolerant viewers with a plot that resolves credibly and an atmosphere that is physically, viscerally cold.

From the reviewers

what really, really makes this, is the incredibly charismatic lead actor playing Andri, the unusual chief of the local police. What an actor.
user ratings are virtually the same across the board, from under 18 (who love it best) to over 45, males and females, US and non US users. It's quite astonishing and not at all usual.
a wonderful setting and the drama of a big storm accentuates the claustrophobic community and gives the crime element a grimness and urgency.
Television at its best, flavoured with an Icelandic blackness provided by the climate and the terrain.
it's the first show that's so cold it makes me want to put a jumper on just watching it!
