The Mire (Rojst) poster

The Mire is a Polish crime drama set across two eras — communist Poland in the mid-1980s and its democratic aftermath in the late 1990s — where journalists and investigators uncover murders and massacres that powerful people have buried along with the old regime. It is slow, grey, and atmospheric, with a landscape that functions as a moral presence; its mysteries are layered and don't resolve neatly. Reviewers consistently praise the authenticity of its period reconstruction and the quality of its lead performances. The show earns comparisons to Twin Peaks and True Detective for its moody, place-saturated texture, and to Nordic noir for its procedural patience. It rewards viewers willing to engage with subtlety, historical weight, and institutional corruption across generations.

From the reviewers

The first season nicely captured the feel of life under an oppressive regime where towing the party line mattered more than the truth.
The second season, which I enjoyed just as much, shows how many things may have changed but attitudes take longer to moderate.
This bleak city, with its foresty and marshy surroundings, is a character of its own - it pulls you in, and does not want to let you go. Ever.
In general there was nothing flashy, the impressive thing was the everyday detail and convincing human aspect, like I said, they kept it simple in that sense, and got it right.
It is like a mesmerizing wall tapestry where each intricate plot (motif) is woven with much perfection. Sophisticated layout of interweaving plots all gracefully ties up...This Show cannot be rushed, fastforwarded or binged while multitasking..it deserves full attention of the viewer.
