The Fall of the House of Usher poster

Mike Flanagan's 'The Fall of the House of Usher' is a prestige gothic horror anthology in which a pharmaceutical dynasty collapses as its heirs die one by one, with each episode reworking a different Edgar Allan Poe tale — 'The Masque of the Red Death,' 'The Tell-Tale Heart,' 'The Black Cat,' and others — into a modern register. The show's signature move is intellectual rather than visceral: Flanagan is less interested in period Gothic spectacle than in Poe's psychological preoccupations — alienation, mortality, moral corruption, and the psychic cost of extreme wealth. A large, committed ensemble, meticulous production design, and a structurally bold formal conceit make it essential viewing for Flanagan devotees and Poe enthusiasts alike.

From the reviewers

Flanagan captured Poe's gothic atmosphere and core ideas and translated them through the modern context and language
The deep psychological implications of his work is what makes Poe a genius, and not just a good writer. The man described illnesses and neuro-divergences centuries before there was even a name for them.
he resisted the easy road of a shallow costume piece, and focused his script to what's underneath instead
Every episode is a modern retelling of an Edgar Allan Poe story. And then tying each of those stories into the house of usher. It was genius.
The final episode was perhaps my favourite segment, how rare for a series to end on such a high note, it's wonderful.
