The Eternaut poster

El Eternauta is a slow-burn Argentine sci-fi apocalypse series adapted from a beloved 1957 comic, set in a snow-blanketed Buenos Aires where a mysterious lethal snowfall and alien occupation force an ordinary middle-aged man to lead his family and neighbours toward survival. The show is defined by its refusal of Hollywood genre conventions: its protagonist is unremarkable, its pacing is deliberate and dialogue-heavy, and its emotional and intellectual weight derives from allegory — anti-fascism, collective resistance, Latin American political history. Filmed in Spanish on location in Buenos Aires, it carries a distinctive regional authenticity that reviewers treat as inseparable from its meaning. Best suited to viewers comfortable with foreign-language prestige drama who want social commentary embedded in genre.

From the reviewers

The protagonist is not a hero, he is a old man, whose primary interest is to keep his friends and family alive and well. He has a normal wife, he is not strong, charismatic, or has any other exceptional qualities aside from those that all common people share.
People are not jacked, they do not have highly-confrontational relationships with their friends and neighbors, they are almost, let's say, 'human'.
for once, it's 6 episodes and it's done. You will not have to wait for years just for the show to get cancelled.
A series that entertains without resorting to clichés.
The pacing is slower, with plenty of dialogue, and character development. The production value is relatively strong for a series coming out of South America and not funded on an obscene Disney budget.
