The Bear (2022)

The Bear poster

The Bear is a high-intensity US prestige drama set inside a chaotic Chicago restaurant kitchen, following a fine-dining chef (Jeremy Allen White) who returns home to run his late brother's sandwich shop and rebuild a fractured family-staff ensemble. Despite an IMDb comedy tag, reviewers consistently insist it is a drama — relentlessly stressful, emotionally layered, and bracingly authentic for anyone who has worked in food service. Its short episodes, kinetic direction, and ensemble depth (particularly White and Ayo Edebiri) drew near-universal acclaim for Seasons 1 and 2, though Season 3 is widely seen as a narrative plateau. It rewards viewers who can tolerate sustained tension and emotional weight.

From the reviewers

To say this is an intense series is an understatement. Comedy - not so much, but just enough.
I am glad the episodes were short because of how incredibly intense all the episodes were. To make them longer for lengths sake would have ruined the rhythm and let us off the hook - which is where we wanted to be.
Shots and scenes are artful and not pretentious, soundtrack choice is excellent.
This is not a glitzy Hollywood romanticized fantasy. Great acting, accurate terminology and technique.
I completely forgot I was watching actors perform, and genuinely felt as though I was watching real people go through real life drama, and comedy.
