Somewhere Boy poster

Somewhere Boy is a stylised, darkly offbeat British drama following Danny, a teenager who has spent his entire life locked inside a Yorkshire farmhouse by a father who told him the outside world was full of monsters. When his father dies, Danny must navigate a society he has never experienced, accompanied by his cousin Aaron. Produced in the mould of Channel 4's The End of the F***ing World, the show blends gothic backstory with fish-out-of-water coming-of-age, using period music and a deliberate visual style to offset its deeply unsettling premise. The lead performance is widely praised as exceptional, and the cousin relationship provides its emotional core. At under 30 minutes per episode, it moves quickly and leans into ambiguity.

From the reviewers

This is a highly stylised and unusual drama from the makers of C4's 'The End of the ****ing World' which it resembles in tone.
the lead Lewis Gribben was just perfect in the role.
Lovely period music too, which reminded me of writer Dennis Potter's works, like 'The Singing Detective'.
there's a dissonance between the ordinariness of the main story (with its shy but essentially normal protagonist) and the gothic horror of his backstory. More like a collection of illustrative scenes than a complete tale, it lacks the attention to detail that would have been needed to make it ring true.
In the role of Danny, Lewis Gribben is astonishing. As he explores his new world, his fascination, confusion, horror and joy are palpable
