Poldark is a lush British period drama set in 18th-century Cornwall, following the morally upright but socially unconventional nobleman Ross Poldark as he navigates class conflict, romantic entanglement, and economic hardship. Its identity rests on four pillars reviewers name again and again: Aidan Turner's magnetic central performance, the spectacular Cornish landscape, meticulous period production, and a tonal commitment to idealism and honor that distinguishes it from grittier prestige drama. Seasons 1–4 are widely regarded as a modern gold standard of UK period television, faithful to Winston Graham's source novels and emotionally transporting; Season 5's departure from the books is almost universally treated as a serious creative failure. Best watched by couples and fans of literary adaptation who want romance grounded in social realism rather than melodrama.

the story is elegant and gritty, actors outstanding, and scenery simply stunning!
The word, "noble" means something and not all noblemen demonstrate it. The relationships are not predictable, nor the storyline which shows the desperation of those who scrape by--mostly with honor--and some not troubled by honor but wealth.
I like how the characters are flawed and realistic, but still recognizably noble and heroic. There are underlying messages about humanity's flaws and how we do suffer the consequences of our actions but also the value of love, forgiveness, and compassion is emphasized.
Poldark is at its core a romance but it avoids the "bodice ripper" label by maintaining a very grounded approach to romantic storytelling mixing in a strong social commentary and rye humour.
Turner is exceptional as Poldark. As is Eleanor Tomlinson who offers up an at times very funny but also deeply touching performance, as Demelza.
