Hinterland is a Welsh-language co-production (BBC Wales/S4C) that functions as Britain's most direct answer to Nordic noir: a slow-burn, psychologically weighted crime drama set against the starkly beautiful and rain-soaked landscape of mid-Wales. Richard Harrington is massively charismatic as lead character DCI Mathias, and the supporting cast are always equally as good.
