Halt and Catch Fire poster

Halt and Catch Fire is a US prestige drama set in the 1980s–90s tech industry, tracing a small group of entrepreneurs and engineers through the PC revolution, the gaming industry, and the early internet. Its signature quality is extraordinarily patient, psychologically nuanced character development — four leads whose personalities, loyalties, and moral complexions shift gradually and believably across four seasons. The show functions less as a tech procedural than as an intimate study of ambition, creativity, and the cost of reinvention. Tonally it sits close to Mad Men: quietly cinematic, emotionally resonant, and rewarding viewers who stay through a slow first act. It is widely regarded as one of the great underappreciated prestige dramas of its era.

From the reviewers

Their development is simply amazing, it is always possible to see a gradual and constant evolution of their psychology, their actions and way of thinking change through time, depending on their personal experiences.
Donna and Cameron are the perfect example about how Hollywood should build empowered female roles. These two women really work hard to get where they are, and nothing is gifted to them.
The character development-especially the arcs of Cameron and Donna-is exceptional. By the final season, it's one of the most emotionally satisfying shows I've seen.
The soundtrack, the clothes and computers - all period details from the 80s and 90s are lovingly curated.
The female characters shine as complex and flawed, there are no two-dimensional heroes or villains. Great writing, great acting.
