Game of Thrones poster

Game of Thrones is a landmark prestige fantasy epic set in the politically ruthless world of Westeros, where noble houses, foreign invaders, and supernatural threats converge across a vast ensemble of morally complex characters. Its first six seasons are among the most celebrated television ever produced — praised for Hollywood-scale production, intelligent plotting, shocking character deaths, and deeply developed arcs. The show defined a decade of pop culture and set the benchmark for epic television ambition. Its final two seasons, particularly the eighth, are equally famous for a catastrophic collapse in writing quality that became a cultural event in its own right, making GoT as notable for its failure as for its brilliance.

From the reviewers

Deep world-building, intelligent dialogue, epic set-pieces worthy of Hollywood, expert acting, detailed plotting, genuine surprises, great soundtrack used sparingly.
The biggest problem with the final season was it took us out of the story and got us thinking about its many weaknesses. We lost our suspension of disbelief. Fatal for fiction. It also ruined the series-arcs to the point where a rewatch of the entire series is pointless.
Season 7: you suddenly notice the writing and plotting has taken a sharp dive downwards in quality. There are inexplicable ideas, inconsistent characterisation and soap-opera dramas.
It was mesmerizing. It was gripping. It was so shocking that if someone is binge watching this show h/she will need a time-off in between to get their head around things and accept some messed up, yet mind blowing development.
It was not a let down, it was a BETRAYAL!
