Detective Hole poster

Detective Hole is a Norwegian Netflix crime drama adapted closely from Jo Nesbø's novels under the author's own supervision, following the brilliant but self-destructive detective Harry Hole through a serial killer investigation in Oslo while battling alcoholism and a corrupt colleague. True to the Nordic noir tradition, the show is distinguished by relentlessly bleak atmosphere, morally ambiguous characters, graphic violence, and a slow-burning tension that rewards patience. Tobias Santelmann's performance is widely regarded as the definitive screen portrayal of Hole, and the show functions explicitly as a redemption of the failed 2017 Snowman film adaptation. The acclaimed soundtrack, cinematic Oslo locations, and faithful rendering of Nesbø's gritty prose style are signature strengths.

From the reviewers

Tobias Santelmann IS Harry Hole here, and the story is told like Jo Nesbø wants his gritty Oslo crime stories told. Violent, dirty, with a intelligent but deeply troubled harry Hole in teh center of it all.
Music here is awesome, obviously chosen by Jo Nesbø himself, and possibly also by director Øystein Karlsen as he uses the great Steve Wynn-rocker as he also used in Exit.
It's particularly brutal in parts , but it's completely in context and marries well with the original book.
If you like European moody aesthetic, intelligent narrative and exceptional performances. This is for you.
Hole breaks out of his alcoholic grip only when pursuing the track to the murderer compels him. Great action and cinematography.
