Deadloch poster

Deadloch is an Australian dark comedy-mystery set in a small Tasmanian town during a winter arts festival, where a string of murders forces an uneasy partnership between a laconic local detective and a foul-mouthed, chaotic Darwin import. It parodies Nordic noir and police procedurals with gleeful irreverence, skewering small-town life, wellness culture, identity politics, and arts-festival pretension with equal relish. The show demands patience — reviewers almost universally warn the first two episodes are abrasive and over-the-top — but reward persistence with a genuinely gripping whodunit, sharp ensemble work, and some of the most inventive comic writing in recent Australian television. Best suited to viewers who enjoy crude, satirical humor alongside a legitimate murder mystery.

From the reviewers

this show kept me guessing to the very end. I can usually eye the murderer from the beginning, but I could not when watching this show.
Once someone on set managed to convince everyone to tone it down a bit, the drama and pace really ramps up
Box definitely stands out as her character is probably the only "seriously" acted characher and she gives a great performance. I actually like the contrast between the Nordic style vibe and then the ridiculous Aussie acting.
It sort of gently takes the p*ss out of a lot of modern, very right-on culture but in a friendly way.
Deadlock is a comed/parody that skewers police procedurals, forensic scientists, small town life, arts festivals, food culture, straight life, alternative life...the list goes on. And with all that there is a pretty reasonable murder mystery.
