Chernobyl poster

Chernobyl is a five-part HBO/Sky prestige miniseries dramatizing the 1986 nuclear disaster and its Soviet institutional cover-up with near-documentary fidelity. Its tone is relentlessly bleak and procedural — less interested in heroics than in the crushing machinery of bureaucratic denial and the quiet sacrifice of ordinary people ordered into lethal situations. Reviewers with direct biographical ties to the event consistently validate its atmospheric and factual authenticity. The show operates at the intersection of historical horror and political anatomy, making the science of radiation and the pathology of Soviet truth-suppression equally legible. It demands emotional endurance but rewards viewers who engage with it as both elegy and warning.

From the reviewers

This show is to remind all of us of the cost of lies.
Watching it is more horrifying than living through it. We didn't know what we were dealing with.
I had to literally pause a couple of times to comprehend what had just been shown. Goose bumps and tears, what a masterpiece.
Surprised that a Swedish director who made music videos for Madonna and his English-speaking cast managed to portray Chernobyl events better, than anybody from the countries most traumatized by the explosion.
The telephones, the clothes, the haircuts, the cracked paint on the window sills, even the door glass is similar to what I remember.
