1923 poster

1923 is a sweeping US prestige Western that expands the Yellowstone franchise into the early twentieth century, following the Dutton family patriarch and matriarch — played with commanding authority by Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren — as they defend their Montana land against prohibition, drought, and encroaching modernity. Running parallel storylines across the American West, Africa, and Europe, the show operates at epic cinematic scale with premium production values and a brutal, emotionally serious tone. Taylor Sheridan's authorship is felt throughout in sharp dialogue and immersive period world-building. The Teonna Rainwater arc adds a harrowing Indigenous trauma thread. The audience is adult, patient, and invested in prestige television with historical and Western sensibilities.

From the reviewers

Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren are magnetic, bringing gravitas to their roles
Beautiful cinematography, costumes, and atmosphere.
some of the plotting is a complete waste of time that adds nothing (Timothy Dalton's character's sexual depravity) or the seemingly never-ending travels of Spencer and Alexandra or the almost completely disconnected storyline of the Indigenous characters to the Dutton family saga.
This is a show where you can't be playing on your phone, cooking dinner or doing something else, it requires your undivided attention. It's a show that never gets stale.
I believe Julia Schlaepfer stole the show. She just crushed the role, and especially the last episode. They will not give her an Emmy probably, but it is one of the best performances I've seen in my life.
